The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and MR. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

A Work in Progress.

These are all part of my collection. I am still on the search for one more bootleg edition which has been very difficult to find so far. I'd going to finish this page but it will be incomplete without this book.

This “Authorized” American edition was published on 5 January 1886 —four days before the London edition. Scribner’s issued 3,000 copies in wrappers and 1,250 copies in cloth - There are variations in the cloth color from green to red.

The first Longmans Green edition had 3000 copies, which 1250 of them were bound in cloth. While the wrapper edition was supposed to be released in December of 1885, the shops would not stock it until the Christmas rush had died down and The Times had given it a review. Sold in January 1886, the date was now changed by hand, the 5 in 1885 to a 6, on the paper wraps of the first edition.

The two wrappered edtions below came out simultaneously with Scribners release of their edition. It seems that plates or printed pages of the Scribners edition were either stolen or bought before publication by Lovell and Munro so their cheaper editions could hit the market at the same time.
